On May 25, Shift2 and Li-Cycle came together at Edison Tech to distribute laptops to graduating seniors who completed a college application, a financial aid application, or are heading into the trades.

The donation is part of an ongoing partnership between Shift2 and Li-Cycle that dates back to 2021. Through that collaboration, Li-Cycle has supported Shift2’s mission of getting refurbished technology into the hands of Rochester community members who need it, while also helping responsibly recycle lithium-ion batteries from used devices. At the event, Li-Cycle also announced an extension of their corporate sponsorship of Shift2 for an additional three years.

Edison Tech Principal Jacob Scott noted how much the laptops mean to students heading into college, careers, and the trades. These aren’t just devices. They’re tools that go with students wherever they’re headed next.

For Shift2, this is exactly what the mission looks like in practice: taking existing technology, handling it the right way, and making sure it ends up somewhere it can do real good.
