How We Do It
Our detailed process at Shift2 ensures that each computer is protected and expertly handled from when it arrives, up, through and until it leaves our doors.
Data is more than 1s and 0s
You computer data holds the vacation photos, business pitch documents, family recipes and Christmas wish lists. At Shift2 we take data security seriously and every computer we receive goes through a process that matches (and even exceeds) the data cleaning standards set by the U.S. Government.

Meeting our High Standards
Hard drives donated to Shift2 are put through a comprehensive data removal and refurbishment process. Our Eraser method is NIST 800-88 Compliance Verified by ADISA and supports the new IEEE 2883-2022 standard.
Certificate Confirmation
Our certified hard drive data erasure includes firmware-level commands to ensure data is written across the full logical capacity of the drive (and not just compressed), multiple random overwrites, freeze lock removal, and full verification. Our process targets every portion of the drive during erasure, including remapped sectors, and removes hidden areas. Every time an erasure is performed, a tamper-proof certificate is issued to verify and certify details on what asset was erased, the erasure method used, what type of data was erased, and the level of erasure, along with a chain of custody of hardware.
