Do you know a nonprofit or school that needs updated computers?
Shift2 Nonprofit Tech Trade program
Shift2 is offering a free computer trade-in opportunity for local nonprofits.
As of 1/9/2024 The first 100 computers have been claimed! Complete the form below to join the waitlist for the next group of available computers for trade (hoping for March 2024).
Local nonprofit organizations can exchange their old desktop tower/laptops and receive a newer, refurbished computer with a Windows 11 operating system and updated features (better computer processor, RAM speed, etc).
This program is to help multiple area nonprofits upgrade their office computers and to responsibly recycle the outdated technology.

Shift2 Nonprofit Tech Trade program FAQs

No. Thanks to the generous support of The Rochester Area Community Foundation the program fees have been covered for the first 100 computers distributed through this effort.
Typically Shift2 has a modest program fee ($100 to $150) for each computer we distribute, which covers our operational expenses incurred during the refurbishment process and the Microsoft Windows license/operating system for each computer.

The only requirement for the recipient organizations is that they are a recognized nonprofit with the IRS (EIN number) and represent an educational institution or cause organization, and can physically travel to Rochester NY for the exchange of the computers (trading the old for the new).
Shift2 installs Microsoft citizenship licenses (as a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher), this requires the computer to be distributed to educational institutions, nonprofit charitable organizations and other approved individual recipients who meet low-income parameters (receiving state benefits based on need).

The computers Shift2 provides may be used for administrative purposes (to upgrade/update existing office computers), for mission-focused projects or to provide directly to program participants to keep in their home.
Shift2 wants your non-profit organization to utilize this technology as it could best support your mission.
Please note: these devices are to keep. They are for the organization to use for the remainder of the computer’s lifespan. -

We are working towards a date of Wednesday, January 24th for the exchange of the old computers for the new computers.
More details to come.

In this first phase of the program we are having a 10 computer limit per organization. HOWEVER, the form has a question “what is the total number of computers you need to have replaced?” This is the answer that we will provide to our funding organization, with the hopes of receiving another grant to replace all outdated computers for non-profit organizations.
Essentially the form submission will also act as an on-going order list to provide a better understanding of the need for replacement computers within the non-profits in our community. And so that the Shift2 team can meet that need and help more organizations with newer, better technology.

We recommend you backup any files that are on the computer to another location (external hard drive or your networked company file system/drives). But if you don’t have time, can’t turn the device on, or are unsure of how to move the files off of the hard drive, you will still be able to keep the physical hard drive with that information.
All the old computers traded in for this program will have the hard drives immediately removed and provided back to the organization on the day of the exchange/trade.
